When it feels like you're not making progress, remember the Chinese Bamboo Tree. When you plant a Chinese Bamboo Tree from seed, nothing will sprout for the first year. Or the second year. Or the third. Most people give up at this point, and the seed dies. But in the fourth year? Still nothing. If you keep nurturing the soil, only in the fifth year will the tree will sprout. And when it does, it explodes out of the ground, growing 80 feet in six weeks!
This exponential growth seems like it comes out of nowhere. But in all those years, it was building up a strong root system. A foundation. In our day to day, we crave immediate results, visible progress, and instant gratification. But it's a trap. The work you are doing matters - even if it doesn't feel like it right now. What looks like exponential growth, is linear under the surface. You're always growing, even if you can't see it. So keep watering your seeds. It will be worth it in the long run.
