Principles of Stoicism as I’ve come to learn them

  1. We can't control what happens to us. Only how we respond. It helps to remain indifferent to what we can’t control.
  2. It’s good to be good. Good actions over good intentions.
  3. We are the sum of our thoughts. Emotions that cause distress should be avoided, not dwelled on. Especially so if they are about the past or future.
  4. We only have this moment. The past is a memory and the future is imaginary.
  5. Remember death. What you have could be gone in a moment. Live accordingly.
  6. We only have one thing we truly own. Our mind. Everything else is borrowed and will return to the earth. That includes your body, your car, and your house.
